WFPB.ORG, a 501(c )3 non-profit organization, is officially launching its Restaurant and Menu Certification initiative. The initiative seeks to help restaurants and chefs of all types of cuisines worldwide to offer whole food, plant-based meals in their menus that are truly healthful and sustainable for both humans and the planet.

The organization provides support and education as well as a distinctive seal that will surpass the Michelin and Zagat accreditations in terms of the quality of the food that it certifies. “The seal ensures customers that the dishes are made with whole ingredients.” says Margarita Restrepo, Founder of WFPB.ORG. “The WFPB (whole food plant-based) Certified seal certifies the dishes don’t contain animal-derived, refined, and processed ingredients, support organic and non-GMO agriculture, and are free of cholesterol, added fats and sugars, chemicals, colorants, metals, and other toxins”.

Although certainly healthier than their non-plant-based counterparts, vegan-only foods may still contain refined, processed, and genetically modified ingredients, be laden with oil, sugar, or other additives that have been classified as harmful for our long-term health and the cause of environmental degradation. The WFPB seal ensures that the foods are free of animals but are made with healthful ingredients.

The list of unacceptable ingredients in their certification is of more than one hundred toxins. As a result, the WFPB certified seal has been classified as one of the highest quality standards in the world and will compete head to head with Zagat and Michelin ratings. “We only carry fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients in our restaurant because we want our customers to taste the difference”, says Gwyn Whittaker from GreenFare Organic Café in VA. “Having this certification on our door and menu shows our customers our commitment to nutritious food that tastes great and has been produced sustainably”.

The organization launches its certification along with already certified restaurants around the world. “We are thrilled to be part of this initiative and offer people the ability to know that their food is truly healthful”, says Jason Gordon, Owner of Soul Tavern in Miami Beach. “I appreciate that the cost of certifying is very inexpensive. One average sale covers the cost! Every restaurant, café or bakery, big or small, can afford it.”

Restaurants can certify a whole menu or specific recipes. The goal is to help restaurants cater to the plant-based community, the fastest growing market today. According to Global Market Insights, the plant-based ingredients market will cross $13 trillion by 2025.
